Theodore Rabinovitch, MD, FRCSC

Meet Dr. Rabinovitch

Dr. Theodore Rabinovitch is a fellowship-trained cornea and ocular inflammation specialist with a highly respected practice focused on cataract and refractive solutions. His primary clinical and surgical work is based at North Toronto Eye Care (NTEC) and the North Toronto Eye Surgical Centre (NTESC), where he serves as Medical Director. NTEC and NTESC are also a Prism Eye Institute affiliate, contributing to a collaborative network focused on excellence in eye care. With over 60,000 procedures performed, Dr. Rabinovitch is widely regarded as one of Toronto’s top cataract surgeons.

A pioneer in laser vision correction in Canada, Dr. Rabinovitch was among the first in Toronto to perform PRK and LASIK, and has continued to advance refractive surgery for more than 25 years. His current focus includes refractive lens exchange and the adoption of next-generation intraocular lens technologies, working in collaboration with Canadian and American companies to push the field forward.

Dr. Rabinovitch is the former Chief of Ophthalmology at Humber River Hospital and Past President of the Toronto Ophthalmological Society, having stepped down from both leadership roles to focus more fully on patient care, surgical innovation, and mentoring. He holds surgical privileges at North York General Hospital, Humber River Regional Hospital, Kensington Eye Institute, and TLC Surgery Centers.

He continues to teach cataract surgery to residents at the University of Toronto’s Kensington Eye Institute, where he is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology. He was previously Head of the university’s uveitis curriculum. His clinical interests also include ocular inflammation and corneal disease, and he has participated in numerous FDA phase 3 and 4 clinical trials related to uveitis, cataract, and refractive surgery.

Dr. Rabinovitch earned his MD and completed his ophthalmology residency at McGill University, followed by a two-year fellowship at the Francis I. Proctor Foundation at the University of California, San Francisco, specializing in microsurgical techniques and inflammatory eye disease.

An avid cyclist, skier, hiker, and golfer, Dr. Rabinovitch experienced the benefits of laser vision correction firsthand in 2004. The procedure allowed him the freedom to fully enjoy outdoor adventures with his wife and sons — from climbing Machu Picchu to skiing around the world — without dependence on glasses. He brings that same passion for precision, innovation, and freedom to every patient encounter.
